FLBA Scholarship 2025 has now launched – closing on 30 May 2025

We are delighted to announce the launch of the FLBA Scholarship for 2025.

In an effort to promote social mobility, equality and inclusion, the FLBA is pleased to be awarding one scholarship in the amount of up to £25,000 to fund applicants intending to practise in family law. The FLBA is proud of this important initiative and is pleased to continue partnering with Bridging the Bar to configure the selection panel. The objective of the scholarships is to increase opportunities for those wishing to train for the Bar by assisting candidates who might not otherwise be able to afford to attend the BPC/BTC and/or to pay the fees.

The scholarship is intended:

(a) either to meet their personal day-to-day living expenses whilst attending, or after completing, Part I and/or Part II of the Bar Practice Course or Bar Training Course (‘BPC/BTC’), formerly the Bar Professional Training Course; and/or
(b) to pay the fees required to do so in whole or in part with a view to commencing a specialist family law pupillage thereafter.

The amount awarded will be adjusted according to discretionary means and merit criteria, including the pupillage award available to the prospective scholar. The committee will retain discretion to award a further scholarship from the available funds, if appropriate. Accordingly, evidence of financial means and of any indebtedness will be required as part of the application process.

Eligible candidates will either:

(a) have already completed the BTC, or be due to complete the BTC in the academic year 2025 – 2026; and
(b) show a demonstrable commitment to building a specialist family law practice at the Bar. Please note that appropriate supporting evidence will be required in circumstances under which the pupillage is not to be at a specialist family law chambers. The committee will, again, retain analytical discretion.

There is an expectation that any applicant will have a 2.1 degree.

The application process is as follows:
1. An application form must be submitted by email to scholarship@flba.co.uk by no later than 4.00pm on 30 May 2025.
2. Interview, which may contain a timed exercise, to take place towards the end of July 2025 in person (date to be confirmed).

Chambers are warmly encouraged to share this with prospective pupils who may fit the criteria.
